So after a discussion with Charlotte about accidently saying something wrong to a trans* person (due to lack of knowledge on correct terminology etc) and getting chewed to shreds for it, I said ‘Educate me, don’t berate me.’ So, here is my sentiment tumblr.
If someone’s being cruel or demoralising by all means have a go, but if someone is just confusing terms, or doesn’t know that the way they expressed something is offensive, tell them, calmly and explain why.
